Unbinding
the safety of
your desire
is not enough
to unbraid the
binds of our
agreement alone,
untethered by any
real commitment
to the tangible and
untouched or not
to be touched.
i
by myself
have stitched the
kernels of earth
into my own head,
wrapped a cord
around my
outstretched neck,
and strangled
myself into
unnecessary sub-
mission, hoping
that i, yes, scarad
little old me, would
be enough,
would be worth
forgetting
underworldly ways
and white lies,
and remembering
that god is
not a man, is greater
than any individual
boxed-in
imagination.
So i am
remembered and
reminded
faithfully and
unfailingly
to unwrap my own
coils and tangles,
knotted balls of
mistrust in my
midsection,
and rewrite the
terms of this contract
as many times as
I must to be free.
